How can you tell the difference between a possible crack in your marble and a vein that occurs naturally in the stone? Depending on the classification of your stone, colors and vein patterns can make cracks difficult to distinguish. See the answer below.

Marble Crack Running Perpendicular to the Vein
ANSWER: A vein will run in the same direction as other veins in the piece of stone.
A crack, on the other hand, will appear unnatural in its direction and will usually run perpendicular to the vein.
Where you cannot feel the vein on piece of polished marble, a crack, when you run your fingers across it, you will be able to feel.
